Comments by Master Modelers
“Before reading this book, I knew nothing
about the San Diego and Arizona Railroad. Building the SD&A
required a monumental effort due to unstable and rugged terrain.
The pictures and accounts in this book are a perfect guide for
a model railroader, working in any of the scales, to build a
layout featuring the mountainous terrain, the trestles, tunnels,
equipment, and facilities that make this railroad unique. I've
never seen a railroad book with a broader scope or a more inspiring
approach to a very interesting railroad. It's a "must have"
book for any model railroader.”
Bob Baxter, Fallbrook CA
"The text is very readable and kept fairly brief
emphasizing data and photographs. Although the book does not
cover day-to-day operations of the railroad, it offers a great
history, especially on construction, and fantastic photographs.
The photos of the locomotive and equipment rosters are great
resources for modelers seeking a small local railroad to emulate.
This SD&A Railway has withstood the ages, and seems like
the perfect little shortline railroad for any modeling era:
short trains, steep grades, and lots of bridges and trestles.
What more could you ask for!"
Kevin Strong, Centennial CO
“This is a book for enthusiasts of Western Steam
Era standard gauge railroads. For those Modelers who love deserts,
trestles, and tunnels, there is a lot here to model in those
prototype categories. For those modelers that are drawn to dates
and statistics, this volume has a lot to offer.”
